跑步文化在近年来在中国骤然兴起，每年全国各地有超过400场公路马拉松或越野马拉松比赛。参与跑步运动的人群迅速发展壮大。班夫中国于2016年创办了『阳光跑步电影季』，就是为了满足广大跑者能够接触世界上其他国家的跑步／马拉松文化，以及传递更加专业的跑步知识，激励更多的人参与到全民跑步健身的运动中。阳光跑步电影季为班夫中国独立策划项目，带领观众赏析甄选近年来世界上最优质、最精彩的跑步纪录片和其中的精彩故事。
